2nd Grade
Meet our Second Grade Teachers
Veronica Johnston
I have been a teacher at Fireside since 2004. I love the Fireside community and it has been a pleasure of mine to watch so many children learn and grow over the years. I have taught kindergarten, 4th, and 5th grades for much of my career before moving to 2nd grade in 2022.
Before teaching at Fireside, I was a bilingual 2nd grade teacher and I also taught at a private Jewish school for two years. I have a MA from UCD in Educational Psychology and a BA in Anthropology. During undergrad, I went on Semester at Sea and was able to travel to 10 different countries while circumnavigating the globe. This experience led to my love of travel and culture. It also inspired me to learn Spanish which I still love to speak!
I am a Colorado native and love living on the front range. I enjoy hiking, biking, paddle boarding, and seeing live music. I am also an avid tennis player! In addition I like to read, travel and spend time with my two children and husband.

"Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle."
I couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of the Fireside staff! I am from the state of Washington where my goal in life was to follow in my mother's footsteps and become a professional runner. I left Washington as the fastest miler and half miler in the state and went on to compete nationally. I came to the University of Colorado on a running scholarship, but injuries ended my college running career. It really was a blessing because I found my true love in life, which is teaching. I graduated from CU with a B.A. in Kinesiology, Psychology, and Elementary Education and a M.A. in Reading and Literacy with an endorsement in Literacy K-12. I am also a Nationally Board Certified Teacher. I started teaching in 2004 at Flatirons Elementary where I have taught both first and second grade.
I am an avid runner and love to hike, read, camp, and spend time with my family. I have two spirited daughters (ages 3 and 4) that are truly miracles and I am grateful for every moment I have with them.
I am looking forward to an exciting new year school year as I am determined to learn, teach, grow, and achieve with my Fireside family.

I am excited and feel very privileged to have the opportunity to be a part of the Fireside team of staff, families, and students. I started teaching in 2005 and joined the Fireside community in 2017. I have taught kindergarten, first and second grades.
I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in Psychology and Elementary Education. I also have my Master’s degree from the University of Colorado in Social, Multicultural, and Bilingual Foundations of Education.
When I am not wearing my “teacher hat”, I am most likely busy being mom to my three children, Dawson, Mason, and Anniston. I love spending time with friends and family, hiking, biking, boating, cooking, baking, traveling, creating, and laughing.
