Welcome to Kindergarten at Fireside! Kindergarten days are filled with learning, community building, social skill development, exploration, discovery and fun!
I am very excited to join the Fireside community and to welcome kindergarteners into a supportive and inclusive classroom community. I love fostering curiosity and lifelong learning in my students and partnering with families to help children achieve their dreams.
I have been teaching in Colorado since 2008 in Kinder-3rd grade classrooms, as a reading interventionist, and as a Dean of Instruction in Denver Public Schools. I have a MA in Literacy Curriculum & Instruction from CU-Boulder and a BA in Psychology and Early Childhood Education from Yale. I speak Spanish and love traveling and learning about cultures.
In my free time, I enjoy all the outdoors in Colorado has to offer - especially hiking, camping, backpacking, running, biking, and swimming. I love spending time with my family and enjoy watching my own two children, age 3 and 6, as they learn and grow every day!
I have been at Fireside since 2004. I love the Fireside community and it has been a pleasure of mine to watch so many children learn and grow over the years. I taught 4th and 5th grade for much of my career before moving to kindergarten. Kindergarten is so magical and the growth kids make during the year socially and academically is truly incredible! I love teaching these little ones and we laugh everyday!
I am excited and feel very privileged to have the opportunity to be a part of the Fireside team of staff, families, and students. This will be my 13th year teaching in the primary grades. I have taught kindergarten for the last 4 years, but also have 4 years experience in each 1st and 2nd grades.
I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in Psychology and Elementary Education. I also have my Master’s degree from the University of Colorado in Social, Multicultural, and Bilingual Foundations of Education.
When I am not wearing my “teacher hat”, I am most likely busy being mom to my three children, Dawson, Mason, and Anniston. I love spending time with friends and family, hiking, biking, boating, cooking, baking, traveling, creating, and laughing!
I believe that Kindergarten sets the tone for the rest of a child’s educational journey. I want them to be excited to come to school each day to learn and explore so they can become lifelong learners. It is not only my job to teach them the standards, but to shape them into individuals who can succeed inside and outside of the school setting. I look forward to partnering with parents to create the best kindergarten experience for each child in my classroom.
